The Purposes of Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting has nine purposes: To

Positively influence character development and encourage spiritual growth
Help boys develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship
Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body
Improve understanding within the family
Strengthen boys' ability to get along with other boys and respect other people
Foster a sense of personal achievement by helping boys develop new interests and skills
Show how to be helpful and do one's best
Provide fun and exciting new things to do
Prepare boys to become Boy Scouts

The Cub Scouting Program is divided into 4 major levels/ranks based upon the boys' grade level in school.

Tiger - 1st Grade
The Tiger Cub Motto is "Search, Discover, Share".   Tiger Cubs is a school year program for first-grade boys.  Each boy participates with a parent (or another adult family member) in family-oriented activities.  These include things from family camping to preparing for emergencies.

The time you and your son spend in Tiger Cubs is meant to be fun, a chance to get to know one another better and do things with your family, as well as other members of the Tiger Cub Den whom you see at monthly den meetings and pack activities.

Wolf - 2nd Grade
A Cub Scout who has completed first grade works on 12 achievements  involving simple physical and mental skills to earn the Wolf badge.  After he earns his Wolf badge, a boy may work on electives in different areas until he is old enough to begin work on the next rank.  For every 10 electives a boy completes, he earns an Arrow Point.  A boy may earn as many Arrow Points as he wishes.

Bear - 3rd Grade
A Cub Scout who has completed second grade completes 12 of 24 achievements in four different categories to earn the Bear badge.  These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for Wolf rank.   After he earns his Bear badge, a boy may work on electives in different areas until he is old enough to begin work on the next rank.  For every 10 electives a boy completes, he earns an Arrow Point.  A boy may earn as many Arrow Points as he wishes.

Webelos - 4th & 5th Grade
When a Cub Scout has completed the third grade (or becomes 9 years old), he transfers to a Webelos den, led by an adult Webelos leader. The boy works on requirements for the Webelos badge, 20 activity badges and the Arrow of Light Award (the highest award in Cub Scouting) which prepares him for Boy Scouting.

Leadership/Volunteers
Cub Scouting only works if people come forward and volunteer their time and talents to help guide these young men down the right path in life.  The work is fun and rewarding.   The pay you receive will not buy a cup of coffee but it will leave a lasting impression on you, the community, the Cub Scout and their families.
